Measuring Careem’s socioeconomic impact in the region
For the first time, Careem partnered with Oxford Economics to create an independent research report on the socioeconomic impact we have had in the region.
The report is a deep dive into the lives of our Captains, Colleagues and Communities in the UAE, KSA, Egypt and Pakistan, and how Careem simplifies them daily through mobility.
We focused on a five year period – 2014 to early 2020, and surveyed thousands of Captains and Customers, asking them about their travel habits, their reasons for choosing Careem, and how Careem has impacted their daily lives. The 90-page report shows the effect Careem has had on safer, more accessible and reliable mobility; women in all markets said they used Careem because it offered them a safe mode of transport they could rely on.
The report shows how Careem has created earning opportunities for so many young people in the region; Captains in all markets said that Careem’s flexible working schedule was a huge factor for staying on, and they use their earnings to support family expenses. And lastly it shines a light on the work Careem does to support vulnerable and marginalised communities, with the help of generous Tigers and Customers.
